View, a multi-arts center located in Old Forge, announces a reception celebrating the opening of the Adirondacks National Exhibitions of American Watercolors, Carl Rubino: Painted by the Elements, Ruth Clegg: Under and Over – Adirondack Pond Life, and Central New York Watercolor Society Signature Show on Friday, August 5, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The reception is free and open to the public.Be sure to join us the next morning, Saturday August 6, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm for the Annual Walkabout Lecture and Brunch with juror of selection Carolyn Lord, NWS. Brunch is $15 for non-members/ $10 for View members. Lord will discuss, in detail, some of her favorite paintings from the exhibition.
Adirondack National Exhibitions of American Watercolors
The crowning jewel of View’s exhibition season, the 35th annual Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors features work from the nation’s top water-media artists. This year’s exhibition features 90 works from 86 artists, selected by Juror of Selection Carolyn Lord, NWS from 455 entries. From the 90 paintings, 30 were selected by Juror of Awards Chris Krupinski, AWS-df, NWS. The exhibition runs through October 9, 2016.
Carl Rubino: Painted by the Elements features photographic abstractions of peeling paint from sailboat hulls in mid-winter. Apparent horizon lines or abstract landscape compositions float before the viewer’s eyes; and simple photographs of peeling paint become abstract images, inviting the viewer to derive her or his own emotional reaction. Rubino is an award-winning photographer based in the Keene Valley. The exhibition runs through October 30, 2016.
Ruth Clegg: Under and Over – Adirondack Pond Life is a photographic exploration of Adirondack pond life. Clegg plays with basic elements of light, movement, and color to explore the otherworldly environment of underwater pond life. Her photographs offer a peak into the microcosm that lies beneath the surface. The exhibition runs through October 16, 2016.
Central New York Watercolor Society Signature Show is an exhibition highlighting the work of signature members of the Central New Watercolor Society. The show exhibits members who have demonstrated a level of excellence as judged by a blind jury. The exhibition runs through September 25, 2016.
