7-25 Open HouseEnjoy the wonders of nature during the second annual Open House from 2 to 5 p.m. on August 14 at Rogers Environmental Education Center in Sherburne. Hosted by Friends of Rogers, this fun-filled afternoon will be packed with outdoor activities and presentations.

“We’re excited to once again host this celebration for our Central New York community,” said Simon Solomon, Friends of Rogers executive director. “The engaging activities, interactive exhibits, and live music we have lined up will appeal to guests of all ages.”

Classroom demonstrations as well as exhibits and Summer Adventure Camp displays will highlight seasonal activities.

Campfire s’mores will be available for roasting, and visitors will have the opportunity to take canoes and kayaks out on the pond. Thanks to Holy Smoke BBQ, delicious eats will be available beginning at 10:30 am until the end of the Open House.

Popular progressive folk rock band “Rabbit in the Rye” will present live music beginning at 4 pm. The young trio of Joseph Mettler on guitars and harmonica, Alexander Lavon on electric and standup bass, and Brendan O’Connor on percussion and mandolin won the “Best New Artist” SAMMY award in 2014.

“Our Open House is the perfect opportunity to experience outdoor summer adventures,” said Sarah Freedman, Friends of Rogers environmental educator. “We hope the festivities allow visitors to have a renewed sense of connection to nature.”

Rogers Center is operated by Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center, Inc., a nonprofit organization that offers educational programs for all ages. Summer hours are from 10 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Saturday, and from 11 am to 3 pm on Sunday. For more information, call (607) 674-4733 or visit www.friendsofrogers.org.
