As many of us know, there is a group of Hamiltonians working to bring a dog park to the Village of Hamilton. Here’s an excerpt from their website describing their goals:We believe that a dog park in the Village of Hamilton would be an attractive, healthy, and safety-enhancing addition to our community, well-suited to the friendly character of Hamilton. We are asking the Village of Hamilton to consider establishing an off-leash dog area (“dog park”) in our community:
- to provide a safe off-leash fenced area for dogs and owners to exercise and play;
- to help owners control barking and other nuisance behaviors by allowing dogs to exercise and learn socialization skills;
- to aid seniors and physically-challenged people, who might not otherwise have the opportunity to exercise their dogs safely;
- to provide a new opportunity for people to socialize outdoors in all seasons, creating a year-round village amenity, and building community bonds, and
- to assist the community in enforcing existing leash laws, which are often ignored by residents, and with encouraging dog registrations.”
