Oneida Public Library

Gene LaLonde, a survivalist from the North Country and the author of “A Question of Survival,” will address how to prepare for and survive natural or man-made disasters at Oneida Public Library on Tuesday, April 4, at 6 p.m.

In his presentation, Surviving Unexpected Emergencies, LaLonde will review major natural occurrences such as the Blizzard of 1977 and the Ice Storm of 1998 as well as emergencies related to winter travel.

As a retired pilot with a background in electronics, LaLonde will pay particular attention to the possibilities and repercussions of an electromagnetic pulse, whether caused by solar flares or nuclear explosions, that could shut down the electric power grid and decimate computers and electronic devices.

Given such emergencies, LaLonde will advise on ways to ensure survival such as food storage and preservation, water collection, medical preparedness and personal protection.

His book “A Question of Survival,” which will be available for purchase and signing by the author, is a novel about a family’s survival after an EMP attack.

LaLonde’s talk is free and open to the public. For more information, stop by the Oneida Library, 220 Broad St., or call 315-363-3050.
