Help restore one of the many hiking paths at Rogers Center by volunteering on “National Trails Day.” The Excelsior Conservation Corps will lead an initiative to improve the trails which endured significant damage during an unseasonably wet spring.

Beginning at 10 a.m. on June 3, community volunteers are invited to join the Excelsior Conservation Corps with trail maintenance tasks, such as adding mulch and stone, trimming stray branches, and building up areas that have recently become extremely water-logged.

The Excelsior Conservation Corps, an extension of the New York State AmeriCorps program, is a modern day version of the Civilian Conservation Corps. Members of the ECC work to complete environmental stewardship projects on public lands for the protection of natural and recreational resources.

“We are extremely grateful for this collaboration with the Excelsior Conservation Corps,” said Simon Solomon, executive director. “This continued partnership echoes our history, as the Adams Farm and Cush Hill parcels hosted the CCC from 1933-1942, during which time the now-familiar Rogers Center landscape was constructed. Having the ECC assist with trail maintenance is an inspiring reflection of that legacy!”

To pre-register as a “National Trails Day” volunteer, call (607) 674-4733 or email execdir@FriendsofRogers.org. Rogers Center is operated by Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center, Inc., a nonprofit organization that offers educational programs for people of all ages.

Seasonal hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
