The Week of July 9 through July 15 is Technology Week at the Canastota Public Library and the third week of our Summer Reading Program, “Build A Better World”. The programs being offered during the week will all have a “tech” theme.

For the Summer Reading Program, we have a Maker Cart on the second floor of the library. Each week, there is a Maker Cart Challenge where kids can stop in and build the challenge using only the materials listed. This week, the challenge is to build a “bird’s nest” using only the materials on the cart. Each participant who finishes the challenge takes home a Builder Certificate for the week!

Monday, July 10: Monday afternoon at 2pm, kids (ages 10 and up) can build a robot for our Maker Monday program. Kids will use our LEGO Robotic Mindstorm kits to build and program a robot.

Tuesday, July 11: Our Ready, Set, Robotics Teams will meet to build and program their robots. This program, for ages 10 – 15 is in its third year and has five teams of robot builders!

Wednesday, July 12: At 10pm, caregivers and their babies will meet at Baby & Me Lapsit with Miss Angela. Stories, sing alongs and fingerplays are so much fun! And, there is even a craft that follows!

Also at 10am, kids in grades k through 6 can come and participate in a workshop with local artist, Therese Gena. This workshop is to help students prepare their submission for the library’s “Words & Pictures” contest. All students who participate will be submitting their entries for the art competition.

At 1:30pm, the Teen Book Club will meet in the Lawson Community Room.

Dave and Kyle Fultz of Gravitational Bull will thrill our audience at 7pm with juggling, magic, storytelling and more. Their program will take place in the Children’s Area on the second floor of the library.

Thursday, July 13: Pre School Storytime with Mrs. Liz begins at 10am. Read aloud stories, games and a snack round out this program.

At 5:30pm, kids age 10 – 15 can come to learn about circuits during Arduino Fun. This four week workshop explores how you can use Arduinos to make things happen in the world around us.

At 6pm, join our Evening Knitting Group and learn how to knit. This fun, welcoming group can help you to learn a new skill that might become a favored hobby!

Friday, July 7: At 10am, Our Friday Morning Knitting Group welcomes new members to join them for knitting, coffee and nice conversation.

At 2pm each Friday during our Summer Reading Program, we’ll be showing a Family Movie! This week, our movie is “LEGO Batman Movie”. This movie is rated PG. There are big changes brewing in Gotham, but if Batman (Will Arnett) wants to save the city from the Joker’s (Zach Galifianakis) hostile takeover, he may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

Saturday, July 8: At 10:30am, kids can “Build a Better World” with our Legos during our weekly LEGO Party!

The Canastota Public Library is located at 102 W. Center Street in Canastota,
