On March 22, 2019, at approximately 2:29 a.m., state police stopped a vehicle on I-87 in Athens for a vehicle and traffic violation. Upon interviewing the occupants, probable cause to search the vehicle was established.
The driver, Samantha M. Segara, 19, of Utica, was found to be in possession of approximately 2.8 grams of marijuana; passenger, Xzavier T. Ross, 24, also of Utica, was found to be in possession of just more than three pounds of marijuana.
Segara was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and a vehicle and traffic violation and released on appearance tickets returnable to Athens Town Court at 3 p.m. April 4, 2019.
Ross was taken into custody and transported to SP Albany where he was charged with second-degree criminal possession of marijuana; a class D felony; he was arraigned Athens Town Court and remanded to jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.
