Troop D News: Cold Case Tuesday

State police continue investigating 1967 homicide of two Onondaga County teens

State police continue to investigate the 1967 homicides of 14-year-old Mary Ann Marzullo of North Syracuse and 13-year-old Jacqueline Saunders of Mattydale.

On Aug. 11, 1967, at approximately 8 p.m., Marzullo and Saunders left the Marzullo home in North Syracuse and walked to the Mattydale Field Days.

Witnesses did see the girls at the event, with the last sightings of the girls between 10:45 p.m. and 11 p.m., walking northbound on Brewerton Road in Mattydale.

When the girls did not return to the home at the agreed-upon time, family went searching for the teens, then reported them missing to law enforcement.

On Aug. 12, the bodies of both teens were found in a field on Oxbow Road in the town of Cicero; an autopsy revealed they had been strangled.

Many leads were followed up on, but the case has remained open. Several interviews of potential suspects have been completed throughout the years; however, this homicide has never been solved, and no charges were filed.

Anyone with information on this disappearance is asked to call Troop D Headquarters in Oneida at 315.366.6000.

All calls can be kept anonymous.
