The House of Representatives voted to reauthorize the critical Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA). Congressman Anthony Brindisi supported the measure to help protect New York in the case of a terrorist attack. Brindisi issued the following statement:

“This is a win for New York workers, businesses, and our local and state governments. In the unfortunate event of a terrorist attack, we need to be prepared to protect our communities and our economy. I am glad to see Republicans and Democrats put politics aside, work together, and get something done on this important issue.”

In response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Congress passed the bipartisan Terrorism Risk Insurance Act of 2002. The program provides government support for the terrorism risk insurance market to help cover losses from catastrophic terrorist attacks. The program was last extended in 2015, and current authorization is scheduled to expire on December 31, 2020. This legislation extends the program for another seven years, until December 31, 2027. TRIA passed 314-95.
