Five members of Canastota’s FFA chapter visited elementary schools in neighboring Camden this month to share their knowledge of maple syrup production.

Senior Kyle Hale; juniors Bailey Doxtater, Jessica Kimball and Konnor Stokes; and eighth-grader Kayden Hale spent a day at Camden Elementary and McConnellsville Elementary talking with more than 400 students about the history and process of maple production.

They also led some hands-on demonstrations and tours of the New York State Maple Producers Association’s Maple Experience Program, a new mobile exhibit on the state’s maple industry.

The mobile exhibit was unveiled in August during the New York State Fair, and Kyle Hale participated in the unveiling and related events during the fair’s Maple Day.

Since then, the mobile exhibit has been used across the state to educate communities about New York’s maple industry.

FFA members hope to bring the exhibit to Canastota in the near future.
