The winter of 2019 pointed out the risk of growing alfalfa on somewhat poorly and poorly drained soils as stands were killed in many instances. But as competition for land increases, these wetter fields may be the ones that are readily available for rent or purchase.

These workshops will be an informal discussion of what dairy farms can do to utilize these less-than-ideally-drained fields. Joe Lawrence, Dairy Forage Systems Specialist for the Cornell PRO-DAIRY program; and Amy Langner, Resource Soil Scientist for NRCS, will join us for these sessions.
