The Madison County Health Department would like to reassure the community after an uptick of positive COVID-19 cases in the town of Cazenovia. As of 11 a.m. June 19, 2020, the number of active positive cases in Cazenovia stands at 12, the majority in a single household.

Madison County recognizes that residents may be concerned when they see the growing numbers over the past few days. The Madison County Health Department does a contact-tracing interview with each individual; if there is any potential for exposure to the public, we will announce that information as we have in the past.

As a reminder, Madison County announced June 17 the potential for public exposure at the Brewster Inn. Members of the public who visited the Brewster Inn between 6 and 8 p.m. June 12, 2020, should self-monitor for symptoms. At this time, we do not have any evidence to connect the Brewster Inn case to the family.

“This is a reminder that, as we continue to reopen and more people interact, there will be hotspots within our community,” said Public Health Director Eric Faisst. “The best way to combat this is by continuing to be cautious. Do not gather in large groups, wear a face covering when you are unable to maintain social distancing and practice good hygiene. We must continue to be smart about the spread of this virus.”
