(Washington, D.C. – Jan. 2013) U.S. Representative Richard Hanna (NY-22) was appointed Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials.
Transportation & Infrastructure Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA) made the announcement this afternoon. Rep. Hanna plans to bring his experience passing a multi-year “highway bill” as the past Vice Chairman of the Highway Subcommittee to the bear as this important Subcommittee undertakes an aggressive legislative agenda.
The Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials is tasked with reauthorizing federal railroad safety and infrastructure programs and modernizing passenger rail to be more cost-effective and increase private sector competition.
“I intend to facilitate a thoughtful debate as we look to improve service, save taxpayer dollars and develop a fiscally-responsible approach to the future of passenger rail—including examining the merits of public-private partnerships in the Northeast Corridor,” Rep. Hanna said. “Freight rail is an especially important connector in upstate New York and throughout the Northeast and I intend to help promote this economical and sustainable mode of transportation. I look forward to working closely with Chairmen Shuster and Denham on this Subcommittee which is so important to American competitiveness and jobs.”
Chairman Shuster announced a total of six Vice Chairmen this afternoon.
“This is an excellent group of leaders with the experience, background and ability to help lead the Committee forward in the 113th Congress,” Chairman Shuster said. “Each of these Members will play a critical role in the Committee’s work to strengthen America’s transportation network, enhance our economic competitiveness, and reform infrastructure programs.”
