Sherburne-Earlville Student Selected as National Youth Delegate

Talon Westman of Earlville, a student at Sherburne Earlville Sr. High School has been selected to represent New York as a National Youth Delegate at the 2013 Washington Youth Summit on the Environment at George Mason University.

Westman has been awarded the opportunity to join a select group of 250 students from across the country to participate in an intensive week-long study of leadership in environmental science and conservation. Westman was chosen based on academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest and excellence in leadership in the sciences and conservation studies.

George Mason University along with partners, National Geographic and the National Zoo are excited to welcome the nation’s youth scholars to Washington, D.C. With distinguished faculty, guest speakers, and direct access to elite D.C. practitioners, the Washington Youth Summit on the Environment offers aspiring environmentalists and student leaders an unparalleled experience.

The week-long program is held at George Mason University’s state-of-the-art campus. The Summit will encourage and inspire young leaders who desire a unique experience focused on successful careers in this dynamic industry.

The Washington Youth Summit on the Environment will be held June 23 to 28.

Area Residents Make Siena College’s Deans’ List

The following local residents have been named to the Siena College Deans’ List for the Fall 2012 semester.

Chloe Durkin, a sophomore political science major of Cazenovia

Maria Rocco, a freshman science major of Oneida.

To be named to the Deans’ List, a student’s grade point average for the semester must be between 3.5 and 3.89.

Area Residents Make Siena College’s President’s List

The following local residents have been named to the Siena College President’s List for the Fall 2012 semester.

Alyssa Endres, a senior physics major of Chittenango.

Luke Greiner, a senior computer science major of Chittenango.

Carlie Roman, a junior psychology major of Chittenango.

To be named to the President’s List, a student’s grade point average for the semester must be 3.9 or above.

Haynes Placed on Dean’s List

Alanna Haynes, the daughter of Alan “Corky” and Karen Haynes of 302 Edwin St., Chittenango, has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2012 semester at the State University of New York College at Cortland. Haynes is a special education major with a 3.99 GPA. She is a 2011 graduate of Chittenango High School.
