To the Editor:

(Feb. 2013) Hobie Morris’s Musings of a Simple Country Man in [the Madison County] Courier of Feb 13 struck a very sympathetic cord, which perhaps could best be summed up in the phrase he quoted, “Just remember the earth is all we have.  Her riches are limited.  When she goes, we go…”  Prophetic!

Perhaps it takes a near miss by an asteroid the size of a bus combined with a meteorite that explodes over a city in Russia to remind us all that we live on an island, in infinite space, and that this island has finite resources. Continual, unlimited population growth is a disaster waiting to happen.

“If only we can get people to love the earth.”  I would add to that, understand and respect that we humans, at the pinnacle of life on the earth, are together the only salvation for continued life of any kind on this island.  Love our home, don’t allow abusive use to continue, we’ve done enough.
