Madison County Habitat for Humanity
(Hamilton, NY – March 2013) Madison County Habitat for Humanity is helping our Colgate University Habitat affiliate as they prepare for this year’s “Habitat for Humanity HomeRun.” This year’s event will be held April 13, which works out very well with the University’s embracement of the number 13.
The university was originally founded as The Baptist Education Society of the State of New York by 13 men who each offered $13 and 13 prayers. The society’s original constitution contained 13 articles. The address is 13 Oak Drive, and located in the zip code 13346 (the first two digits are 13, and the last three digits add up to 13!).
There is certainly no triskaidekaphobia (fear of the number 13) at Colgate University! The “HomeRun” is a fundraiser that helps raise funds for the primary purpose of Habitat: lending a hand up, not a hand out to those currently living in substandard housing.
Habitat for Humanity strives to assist people in finding decent, affordable housing by building or refurbishing homes and holding the mortgage at 0-percent interest. The entry fee for the half marathon is $30 and the 5K is $20. The first 100 runners receive t-shirts.
Corporate and private sponsors are always welcome and greatly appreciated. Any single donation of $100 or more will get your logo or name on the t-shirts. Checks should be made out to Colgate University – COVE.
