(Hamilton, NY – April 2013) Former Mexican President Felipe Calderón will deliver the next lecture in the Kerschner Family Series Global Leaders at Colgate on Saturday, April 13. His public remarks will begin at 5 p.m. in Sanford Field House and serve as a capstone for Spring Family Weekend, which begins on April 12.
Calderón served as the 56th president of Mexico, holding office from 2006 until 2012. Today, he is the Angelopoulos Global Public Leaders Fellow at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
During his six years as Mexico’s chief executive, Calderón increased government investment in the construction and modernization of highways, ports, airports, energy plants, water systems, hospitals, and schools — all in an effort to improve Mexico’s standard of living and to enhance the competitiveness of its economy in spite of the global economic crisis.
Calderón was named Leader of the Year by the Latin Business Chronicle in 2007 and was honored by Latin Trade with the BRAVO Business Award. Time magazine has designated him as one of their top 100 influential people in the world.
The Global Leaders series, sponsored by Colgate’s Parents’ and Grandparents’ Fund, allows the university to invite high-profile guests like Felipe Calderón to campus.
Other lecture series speakers have included President Bill Clinton; Tony Blair, former prime minister of Great Britain; and the Dalai Lama, spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism.
