To the Editor:
(Town of Madison, NY – April 2013) I confess. I cannot find common ground with my “Wind Works” neighbors. The idea of having a megalithic machine close to my home is daunting. The research done about these machines is pro and con and pro and con again. The placement of the even bigger, newer machine next to my house is even more worrisome.
The current history about removal of old or broken machines is not encouraging. The state of Texas has been trying to catch up with companies that have abandoned their responsibilities and left their turbines to stand, unmaintained.
Does anyone see a problem with unmaintained machines as tall as the Washington monument near their properties? Have our European neighbors any success with their older, outdated machines? The pro and con continues. Pro and con, pro and con; with the gamble being all of our land and houses in the shadow of this “green” politically expedient solution to energy woe.
Supervisor Bono, in the last several meetings has been what I can only describe as either purposefully obstructive or blatantly unaware of how to conduct a fair exchange between interested parties. His actions have no outward logic. His display of impatience, frustration and surprise over the questions and attempts to get clarification is ironic when it is easily seen in the previous meetings where there was no effort towards transparency and fair treatment leading to these predictable results.
He has asked for this kind of response. His fellow board members have not helped. They sit and barely engage in any discussion.
I want something done. I want assurances that these elected officials have this town’s best interests as their goal. I urge all to watch this process and wonder if this board or any of its members would represent their interests fairly and out in the open.
Unplug the turbines and put some other issue in and see if this is how concerns of yours should be dealt with.
