Cranwell, who has been teaching at Morrisville State College since 2006, has been involved with agriculture all of his life.

The Nebraska native grew up on a horse farm where he learned about the horse racing industry from his parents who have been in the business for more than five decades, along with his grandfathers.

Throughout his teaching career, Cranwell has received numerous accolades. He was honored by the Collegiate FFA Chapter at Oklahoma Panhandle State University for teaching excellence, and also received the Holling Family Award for Teaching Excellence-Junior Faculty at the University of Nebraska.

The author of numerous equine and agriculture-related publications, Cranwell was invited to speak at the Brazilian Congress of Animal Reproduction in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Additionally, he holds licenses issued by the Racing and Wagering Board (Racing Commission) in three states, has Trainer’s Licenses in New York State and Pennsylvania, and an Owner’s License in Nebraska.

A unique feature of the program is a summer option where students can gain actual experience racing horses at the Finger Lakes Racetrack in Farmington where the college has notched several wins. Their season typically begins in May.

Prior to working at Morrisville State College, Cranwell was an associate professor at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis, Neb.

Cranwell earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Oklahoma Panhandle State University, a master’s degree in animal science from the University of Wyoming and a doctoral degree in animal science from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan.
