(Washington DC, – April 18, 2013) U.S. Representative Richard Hanna this week was appointed to a special panel tasked with examining the current state of freight transportation in the United States and how improving freight transportation can strengthen the U.S. economy.
Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA) and Ranking Member Nick J. Rahall, II (D-WV) this week announced the members of the “Panel on 21st Century Freight Transportation.” The special panel will serve for a period of six months, beginning with its first scheduled hearing on April 24, 2013.
“This select panel will play a critical role in providing recommendations on how to improve the efficient movement of goods between highways, ports, inland waterways, railroads, air carriers, and pipelines,” Chairman Shuster said. “I am confident that Rep. Hanna will use his decades of experience in the private sector and his knowledge of the transportation industry to provide the Committee with valuable insights for the improvement of freight transportation and our Nation’s economy.”
“Being appointed to this panel is especially important as a Representative of New York. From ports on Lake Ontario to trucks on the Thruway to the Erie Canal to miles of freight rail lines, we are truly steeped in intermodal freight transportation.
