(Sherburne, NY – April 2013) Join Friends of Rogers for an afternoon of family fun during Earth Fest, a celebration of nature that will highlight what we can do to live a more sustainable lifestyle, reduce our contribution to climate change, and foster our connection with the earth. The event will take place on Sunday, May 5 from noon to 4 p.m. at Rogers Environmental Education Center in Sherburne.
With something fun for the whole family, visitors can try their hand at kayaking or canoeing, listen to whimsical music, build a bluebird box, and become informed about recycling and saving energy. Learn what solar energy systems can do for your home, and about simple ways to save money and energy while improving the health of the planet.
Artists will showcase their love of the natural world through their artwork. Exhibitors will share information on butterflies, gardening, fishing, hiking, astronomy, farming, birding, composting, fly fishing and geocaching. You can build a bluebird box to take home for $10 or a butterfly feeder for $5.
With so much going on, your belly might start to rumble. This year we are pleased to have Holy Smokes BBQ, Gilligan’s Ice Cream and others to delight in. Visitors may also bring a lunch to enjoy at picnic tables on the Rogers Center grounds.
This is the third annual Earth Fest hosted by FOR, the not-for-profit organization that took over running Rogers Environmental Education Center after the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation closed its doors in 2010 due to statewide budget cuts. Admission to Earth Fest continues to be free, but donations are greatly appreciated.
