(Hamilton, NY – May 2013Isadora_Print) Hamilton resident Isadora Herold performed in the viola section with the Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra at the Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall April 19. Home to the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera, the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts has been called by Frommer’s Travel Guides as “New York City’s foremost institution.”

Herold is a sophomore writing major in the Ithaca College School of Humanities and Sciences.

“Giving its students the opportunity to perform at one of the world’s most prominent venues exemplifies Ithaca College’s creative and innovative training environment,” said Jeffery Meyer, the orchestra’s conductor. “The college provides its students with a solid, traditional groundwork in musicianship and artistry while at the same time encouraging students to experience new musical connections that are adventurous, contemporary and relevant.”

In addition to the Symphony Orchestra performing Ligeti’s “Atmospheres” and Lutoslawski’s “Concerto for Orchestra,” the program included the Ithaca College Choir singing “Laudibus in sanctis” by Byrd and “Hymn to St. Cecilia” by Britten. Both ensembles gave a combined performance of Poulenc’s “Gloria.”

Meyer called the concert “an adventurous program to commemorate the anniversaries of 20th-Century composers Poulenc, Lutoslawski and Britten.”

“Performing at Alice Tully Hall was a thrilling part of my educational experience,” Herold said. “I have no doubt it will leave a lasting impact on me.”
