(Brookfield, NY – May 2013) John Salka (R – North Brookfield) of Brookfield will seek a fourth term for town supervisor in the upcoming election in November. Salka, who was elected to the post in 2008 after spending seven years on the Brookfield Central School board, will ask the voters for another two-year term.
“I feel that we have come a long way in the town, and I have worked hard to represent the interests of the citizens of Brookfield,” Salka said. “I have strived to make government more transparent and accountable and have initiated a number of practices that improve access to and communication with members of the town’s elected and appointed officials.”
Salka cites the town’s newly designed website, the practice of holding meetings in different parts of the community and town hall meetings as being important components of how local government can better serve the people of Brookfield.
He said he also has been working closely with the town highway superintendent, as in the past, to continue a program of rotating older equipment with new, low-maintenance trucks and support vehicles.
“By making sure our fleet of vehicles are up to date and utilizing the most efficient systems of technology and manpower, we are minimizing the money we spend on maintenance and can assure the taxpayers that we are constantly looking for ways to save them hard earned dollars,” Salka said.
Salka, who has spent the past five years as chairman of the Social and Mental Health Services Committee on the Madison County Board of Supervisors, said he is proud of the accomplishments that have been made under his guidance including the privatization of the county’s home health agency and drug and alcohol treatment program, which has saved county taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars.
He also serves as the Chair of the Public Health Committee and vice president of the Madison County Board of Health.
Salka resides in North Brookfield with his wife Erin and his two children Emily and Aleksandr. He is employed as director of Cardiopulmonary Services at Community Memorial Hospital, a licensed respiratory therapist, past director of the Mid York Asthma Coalition and has served on a number of community boards and committees.
“I want to continue to give the people of Brookfield hardworking, mature and experienced leadership to be able to prepare for a challenging future,” Salka said. “I am honored to have served the people of Brookfield and will run on my record of honesty, progress and the ability to represent our town in the best possible way.”
