(Cazenovia, NY – May 2013) The Cazenovia Preservation Foundation will hold its annual meeting Thursday, May 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church Meeting Hall.
After a brief business meeting, Bee Tolman will present “Butcher Shops, Food Hubs and Other Adventures in Getting Local Farm Products to Market.”
Bee has been farming for more than 30 years, including stints as a shepherd in Scotland, a dairy farm worker in New Zealand, and as manager at Meadowood Farms in Cazenovia. She is now part of the leadership team of Side Hill Farmers Cooperative, a local farmers’ cooperative that is opening its own butcher shop and is building a meat processing plant and the Growing Upstate Food Hub in Canastota.
For the presentation, Bee will be joined by the butcher shop Chef Greg Rhoad and Food Hub Project Manager Nathan Forster in describing the delicate recipe of planning, persuasion, blind faith and luck which will turn these entrepreneurial visions into reality.
A reception following the program will include locally produced snacks and refreshments. Public is welcome. . Contact Cazenovia Preservation Foundation at 877-1742, cpfstaff@verizon.net or www.cazpreservation.org for more information.
