Madison County Republican Committee
(Hamilton, NY – June 2013) The Madison County Republican Party has endorsed Denise Roe of Hamilton as candidate for the position of Madison County Clerk for the Nov. 5 election.
Roe serves as Deputy County Clerk, a position she has held for the past eight years. Kenneth J. Kunkel, Jr., who will be retiring as Madison County Clerk at the end of 2013, appointed her.
“Denise Roe is a dynamic, service-oriented leader capable of producing results through creative reasoning, strong analytical skills, team building, focus and hard work,” said Kunkel.
During her tenure in the County Clerk’s office, Roe has implemented numerous programs and formed teams that created easier access to and increased security for the myriad of records housed in the Clerk’s office, such as land, business, court and archival records. Her records management and organizational skills are without precedent, Kunkel said.
In 2012, the County Clerk’s office collected more than $12 million, and through Roe’s financial and business administrative efforts, funds were balanced and distributed with $1.7 million retained for county use.
Part of her master’s degree work in public administration at Marist College was making archival information easily available to the public enhanced customer service. Instituting the MadisonCountyNYhistory.com website (which has recently been enfolded into Madison County’s website) gained more than 500 research hits a month and contributed to her published article in the New York State Archives Journal spring 2012 edition and recognition in Plank Road Magazine.
The number of national and international researchers using the records has grown, as well as increasing customer traffic that spends historical tourism dollars in the county.
Another outcome is a partnership formed with Oneida-Madison BOCES. Together, the Clerk’s Office and OMBOCES are bringing Madison County’s historical documents to Madison and Oneida Counties’ public school classrooms. Students will now learn local history using the County’s historical records.
Her grant development leadership contributed to securing local, state and federal funding to streamline records management. Digitizing more than 400,000 images reduced the amount of time it takes to retrieve a record by 78 percent and saved space. Under Roe’s guidance, the Clerk’s Office has inventoried, preserved, conserved, organized and cataloged record types using technological advances available to county clerks. She also advises other local governments on their records projects and found restoration opportunities for historical portraits of early Madison County judges.
A lifelong resident of Madison County, Roe has 30 years’ experience serving the public, managing records and information, administration, supervision and is certified in team dynamics. She is fully experienced to lead the County’s Clerk’s office for the next four years, Kunkel said.
According to Kunkel, Roe brings Madison County’s voice to Albany directly through her position on the Regional NYS Archives Advisory Board and her membership in the NYS Association of County Clerks. Roe is also a member of the Madison County Ethics Board. She has a long history of serving the community through numerous active board memberships.
“She is not a talker,” Kunkel said. “She is a doer with a proven track record for continuing growth and improvement.”
