(Morrisville, NY – July 2013) Farmers, greenhouse operators, and anyone interested in Madison County’s innovative AG and Rigid Plastic Recycling program are invited to a “hands-on” demonstration on Tuesday, July 23. The program will be held at Morrisville State College’s Dairy Complex on Eaton Street, Morrisville. It begins at 2 pm.
Participants will learn about various kinds of agricultural plastics products found in the waste stream. They will hear how some of those products are being recycled by the Solid Waste Department of Madison County. The demonstration will cover steps in assembling and bundling ag plastic appropriate for delivery to Madison County Landfill or to any of the Transfer Stations in Cazenovia, Hamilton, or Sullivan.
The Madison County Solid Waste Department is a leader in AG and Rigid Plastics Recycling Program. As with other recycling programs currently operating in the county, Director Jim Zecca and his staff constantly look for ways to safely and economically reduce the waste stream accumulating in landfills. This program offers a way for the farm community and to dispose of ag plastics in an environmentally-friendly way.
Representatives from Cornell’s Recycle Agricultural Plastics Project – RAPP – will also be on hand to describe their efforts in developing the end-users of recycled agricultural plastics.
The Morrisville State College’s Dairy Complex is located about half-mile south of Route 20 in downtown Morrisville.
