To the Editor:

letterstotheeditorWe would like to call attention to the fact that at the most recent workshop in Madison, (one supposedly dedicated to setting appropriate guidelines for proposed wind turbines) the town board was presented with a petition of 410 signatures of local residents supporting a limit on height of 400’ and a setback of 7 times the height of the windmill from property lines.

Our town supervisor not only ignored the petition, he went home without it (literally left it on the table).  Several of the board members also admitted to not having read the comments submitted by residents at a recent public hearing where speakers in favor of these regulations outnumbered the ones opposed to them by 4 to 1.

The meeting was, instead, dedicated to basically dismantling the provisional law that has been worked on for the past year by the designated committee and the planning board.  One of the items eliminated was a section of specific guidelines for noise emission control, rejected because one of the board members “didn’t understand it.”  The public hearing was not even discussed.

Three of these town board members are up for reelection in November.  Why would anyone choose to vote for representatives who don’t care enough about their constituents to even read a petition with over 400 signatures on it?
