(Verona, NY – Aug. 2013) Marcia Newsom, MD, a long-time Oneida physician, has joined the physician team at Oneida Healthcare’s Verona Health Center, effective Sept. 3.
Dr. Newsom has been in solo practice in Oneida since 1982 and, in a letter to her current patients, she expressed gratitude to the hospital for facilitating her transition to a less demanding multi-physician setting while also ensuring continuity of care. She joins Drs. John D. George III, Erin Thompson and Keith Marshall in the new Verona Health Center building on W. Main St., which Oneida Healthcare opened last fall.
Newsom received her Medical Degree and completed her Internship in Family Medicine at the University of Mississippi in Jacksonville, Miss. and was the University’s first recipient of the George Lally Bevill Memorial Fellowship Fund Award for “showing outstanding characteristics in the dedication to and practice of the arts and sciences of medicine…”
Newsom is Board Certified in Family Medicine. In addition to her private practice, she has served as a staff physician at Oneida Healthcare’s Extended Care Facility since 1995 and is also is a volunteer physician at the Mary Rose Free Clinic in Oneida.
Newsom is a member of the American Association of Family Physicians; Former President (first woman) of the Central New York Academy of Medicine; Former President (first woman) of the Multi-County Medical Society and former Chief of Staff of the former Oneida City Hospital.
