World War II hat(Canastota, NY – Sept. 2013) This year, Madison County is presenting an “Archives Road Show” in October to honor World War II veterans.

From Sept. 30 through Oct. 6, the Canastota Public Library will feature the Madison County Archives Road Show.

The October displays will showcase how Madison County was impacted during World War II (both locally and overseas).  These displays will feature pictures and letters and showcase our local World War II veterans, as well as all veterans who have served our great country.

To accompany the displays, local veteran Dante Dipietra of Canastota will offer a talk at the Canastota Public Library on Monday, Sept. 30 beginning at 7 p.m. Dipietra will talk about his experiences during the war.

Dipietra was a Sergeant in the 303rd Bomber group out of Molesworth, England.  He served as a gunner aboard a B-17 that was shot down over German air space during the war.  He was a POW in the German Stalag 17b prison from January of 1944 until July of 1945.

Light refreshments will follow the talk.

This event is free and open to the public.
