Celebrating Imagination Library
Saturday at 11 a.m.
To kick off the local expansion of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to the entire Oneida City School District, Oneida Library invites parents with children aged 0 to 3 years to come in and sign up their children to receive free age-appropriate books monthly until they reach 4 ½ years of age. Refreshments will be served, and Joanne Yacovella as Dolly Parton will entertain.

Book Talk with James Furney
Saturday at 1 p.m.
James W. Furney, author of the moving autobiography of his early years “Uncertain Roads,” will share his pamphlet series of memories and musings.

Madison County during World War II
Monday through Saturday
Madison County Historian Matt Urtz puts on display World War II memorabilia of county veterans culled from the county archives and the Madison County Historical Society.

AARP’s Drivers Safety Class
Monday and Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The AARP offers its Drivers Safety Class to licensed drivers 50 years and older for potential discounts in car insurance. To register, call Bob Fish at 363-0455.

Prisons: The Dark Side of the Civil War
Thursday at 7 p.m.
Historian Tom Henry presents the grim history of Andersonville, Elmira and other prisoner-of-war camps, both North and South, in the U.S. Civil War. His illustrated talk will explain how and why 61,000 Union and Confederate soldiers died in these camps.

Reception for Leonard Ressegger
Saturday at 2 p.m.
Leonard “Scoop” Ressegger, a veteran of the Italian campaign during World War II, will share his war memories, followed by a public reception with refreshments. The event is part of the month-long celebration called Madison County during World War II, which county historian Matt Urtz has arranged in collaboration with the Madison County Historical Society and the county’s public libraries.

Railroad historian John Taibi presents his latest book, “The Oneida Railway Company: From Horsecar to Interurbans,” the definitive history of Oneida’s trolley line that became the West Shore Railroad, the railway from Utica to Syracuse with its distinctive electrified third rail.
