(Hamilton, NY – Oct. 2013) Madison County Citizens for Safe Energy (CSE) is sponsoring a lecture titled “Point-Counterpoint: The Fear and Facts of Fracking” on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. in the Hamilton Public Library Community Room.

Guest speaker Dr. Goswald Hughes will present several economic models related to energy development and HVHF (high-volume hydrofracking), including the true cost of land leases, technological safety margins, “green” energy and the costs of hydrocarbon dependence.

Hughes is an economist at the State University of New York at Morrisville. His work as an Environmental Economist and Author includes distinguished credentials in sustainable development, urban sprawl and inclusive growth. His most recent book, Responsible Development: Pollution and Poverty – how markets can cure the problems that they have created is devoted to seeking market solutions to the problems of poverty and pollution. He has spoken internationally on the marketization of social enterprises and promotes the dictum that “we can do well by doing good”.

Citizens for Safe Energy is composed of Madison County residents who support best practices and public policies for natural resources development in order to ensure protection of property values, water and air quality, and the vitality of the local economy including business, tourism and agriculture.
