letterstotheeditorTo the Editor:

(Oneida, NY – Oct. 29, 2013) I’m writing to announce my candidacy for Madison County Supervisor and to ask the residents of Oneida Wards 4, 5, and 6 to vote for me on November 5th.

Except for my absence due to military service from 1969 through 1973, I’ve been a resident of Oneida for all of my life. I graduated from Oneida High School and Morrisville College, holding an Associates Degree in Business Administration.

In 2009 I retired from the New York State Police, serving as a Communications Specialist for over 27 years. I’m a retiree member of the Civil Service Employees Association, and a member of both the Madison County Historical Society and American Legion Post 169.

I was elected to the Oneida Common Council in 2009 and represented the 4th Ward until I moved to the 5th Ward in 2012.

I’m currently a member of the Oneida Traffic Safety Committee, Sign Review Board, and served on the City Charter Review Committee.

Although I’m a registered Democrat, I’m running on the Republican ballot line this November. My decision to run on the Republican line is based on my enthusiastic support of Max Smith for Mayor this fall. Having served with Max, and seeing first hand his leadership of the City of Oneida when our Mayor Don Hudson passed away, and more recently the response to the devastating flood in the 4th Ward, I believe Max and the current Common Council have earned re-election.

There are major challenges facing the City of Oneida, and it is more important than ever that we be vigorously represented in Wampsville as we face important issues like the implementation of the Oneida Indian Nation settlement agreement, economic development, and more efficient government at the city and county level.

It’s very important that all of us vote and meet our civic obligation to make our
community a better place. I urge everyone to vote and ask the voters in wards 4, 5, and 6 in the City of Oneida to vote for me on November 5th.

Thank you.
