(Canastota, NY – Nov. 5, 2013) The 2013 New York State FBLA District 7 Fall Conference was held at the Utica School of Commerce, Utica campus on Friday Nov. 1.  Nineteen Canastota High School members attended along with close to 150 other members from throughout Madison, Oneida, and Herkimer counties. 

Derick Trost, a Canastota High School junior, coordinated and presided over the meeting.  Derick is serving the 2013 – 2014 school year as the NYS FBLA District 7 State Vice President.

Eight workshops were presented to the membership in attendance on topics such as “The College Application Process,” “Parliamentary Procedure,” “Professional Image,” “Advertising,” “Artificial Intelligence,” “Fundraising” and others.

Several professionals from the area presented the workshops to the membership.

Paul Gregoris, Hafeezah Lewis and Ariel Orcutt represented Canastota High School in the Battle of the Best competition.  Hafeezah received second place recognition.  Canastota also received second place recognition for their participation in the annual coin challenge, raising money for District 7.

The following Canastota members were appointed to serve as District 7 officers:  Lindsey Smith – Assistant to the State Vice President, Paul Gregoris – Public Relations Director, and Hafeezah Lewis – Historian.

The next district meeting will be held on Feb. 7 at the Herkimer BOCES site.

Nov. 14 to 17, seven members from the Canastota High School chapter will travel to Cleveland, Ohio with their advisor, Elizabeth Garofalo, to attend the National Fall Leadership Conference. At this conference, members will experience networking opportunities, general sessions, keynote speakers, professional workshops and so much more. It is an event that brings together members from all over the region and the nation together in one place to attend the various workshops coordinated by the National Association of FBLA-PBL.
