Mad Co Sheriff's DeptSubmitted by John Ball, Madison County Undersheriff

(Wampsville, NY – Nov. 27, 2013) The Madison County Sheriff’s Office has been advised that through a telephone call, a male is calling seniors indicating he is their grandson and is in some type of trouble, and needs money. He then says he has to go and will call right back, which he does.

In one case, the call recipient asked a question that only the grandson could answer, and the caller immediately disconnected when challenged.

There is no indication of the number originating the possible scam call, or the person(s) responsible for it.

Sheriff Allen Riley reminds area residents to be aware of this type of this ongoing scam and never give out any personal information over the phone or internet if you are not 100 percent sure of who you are communicating with.

  1. Asking questions only the grandson knew was a smart move. I read the same advice and it’s amazing how these scammers remain to be persistent despite the fact the people are now aware and vigilant against such calls.
