CazCans Receives Award
(Utica, NY – Dec. 3, 2013) On Nov.14 the Revolutionary Trails Council, BSA hosted its first annual Leadership Dinner. The dinner gathered together leaders from throughout the community, including Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney, Assemblyman Marc Butler, Oneida County Clerk Sandy DePerno, Herkimer County Clerk Sylvia Rowan, Utica City Court Judge Ralph Eannace and Rome City Court Judge Daniel Wilson. The event raised more than $50,000 to support the Council’s on-going activities for youths.
The evening’s events included a keynote speech delivered by New Hartford native Rear Admiral Garry R. White (USN, Retired) and the presentation of the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award to Chittenango native Steven W. Barnes. The Council also recognized two businesses with the presentation of two new awards: the General George Washington Award to Caz Cans of Cazenovia, NY, and the General Nicholas Herkimer Award to Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired of Utica, NY. These awards were established to recognize one for-profit business and one not-for-profit business for exemplifying leadership in the area.
Proceeds from the night’s events will help to bridge the shortfall associated with the loss of United Way funding for ScoutReach, an after-school program that provides at-risk youths in grades K-5, who live in Utica, Rome and Herkimer, with the Scouting program and character education. The Council provides the staffing and materials, which includes uniforms, awards, field trips and camperships for the approximately 1,000 local Scouts enrolled in this program.
