letterstotheeditorTo the Editor:

(Morrisville, NY – Dec. 2013) For more than 30 years I have been a part of an incredible group of people who believe that every child should experience the same sense of wonder and awe that our children had growing up.

As in years past the needs of young families in our community are more visible at Christmas than any other time of year. Once again St. Joan of Arc, St. Mary’s and St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Churches, the Morrisville Community Church, the communities of Morrisville, Hamilton, and Rome,  Colgate University and Morrisville State College, as well as the many businesses, community members and the students of Morrisville Eaton Central School, joined together to achieved an amazing goal. One that would provide a warm and fun filled Christmas to close to 200 children in the M-E-C-S district and our senior friends at Crouse Community Center.

To those who made this year’s program so successful thank you for your generosity.  I would also like to send a HUGE thank you out to the over 100 volunteers that make this program happen each year. Without each of you, from the smallest school children to a beautiful 98 years young lady that knits many of our mittens, this program would not exist.

For those who have lost sight of the joy Christ’s birth offers each of us every year, all you have to do is spend a morning with these volunteers and you would have seen the light of the Christ child in the eyes of so many moms and dads as they graciously selected the special gifts that will make their young children squeal with wide eyed joy on Christmas Morning.

No matter what the season if we all take a moment to look around our towns we will find a way to serve those who for the moment may need a hand and a kind heart to lift their spirits.

I hope that the many blessings you have shared with others are returned to you and yours 10 fold.

Wishing each of you the joy that the Christmas season promises.
