(Madison County, NY – Jan. 2, 2014) Cornell Cooperative Extension of Madison County is recruiting volunteers to provide free service for Madison County residents 60 and older.
Volunteers assist seniors in preparing and submitting their federal and NYS tax forms for the 2013 tax season. Volunteers who have computer skills, good math or accounting skills and the desire to work with experienced tax preparers are need immediately. Training for completion of basic tax forms is provided for interested volunteers. There is no small business or farm returns done, just simple 1040’s. Flexible hours and times will make it possible to meet your schedule.
Tax Counseling for the Elderly volunteers provide a valuable service to the community. TCE, last year returned almost a half million dollars in federal and state refunds. Without new volunteers this service will have to be cut back causing additional financial stress and travel difficulties to many area seniors. Please consider joining a great group of current volunteers and discover a new and short term way to give back to your community.
Workshop will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 14; Wednesday, Jan. 15 and Thursday, Jan. 16 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Madison County, 100 Eaton St. in Morrisville. Lunch and coffee breaks will be provided.
For more information or to register as a volunteer tax counselor, please call Judy Parker, TCE Coordinator at 684-3860 by Jan. 10, 2014.
