(Morrisville, NY – Feb. 2014) On Friday, March 21 dairy producers and managers, dairy farm employees and agri-service professionals are invited to attend the 2014 Winter Dairy Management Program at Morrisville State College. The event will be held in Crawford Hall on the Morrisville campus in Lecture Room #103. Registration begins at 9:30 am.

The line-up of speakers and topics include: Betsey Howland, PRO-DAIRY Extension Support Specialist from Cornell University, who will outline the benefits of business planning, as called for in the Dairy Acceleration Program (DAP). She’ll describe how dairy producers can take advantage of the program’s benefits and review the steps to sign on.

Next on the agenda is Dave Balbian, Dairy Specialist with the CNY Dairy & Field Crops Team. He’ll address 2 topics:  Low-Cost Parlors – Options and Considerations and Budgeting for a Dairy Modernization Capital Investment in a Realistic Way

Dr. Rick Watters, DVM, PhD., Sr. Extension Veterinarian with Quality Milk Promotion Services will present information on Milking Parlors – Typical Intervals for Maintenance and Improved Numbers Game. He’ll review parlor efficiencies and equipment maintenance, two key components in keeping the milking center operating on a routine schedule and spreading out maintenance costs.

Robotic Milking Systems – A Different Management System will be presented by Kathy Barrett, Senior Extension Associate with PRO-DAIRY at Cornell University. Over the last 5 years, more and more farmers have installed robotic milking systems in NYS. She will address when these kinds of systems are a good choice for producers and how they manage them.
