SCC sponsors contest; Miss New York Teen presents prize

(Town of Sullivan, NY – Feb. 2014) On Feb. 15 the Sullivan Parks & Recreation Department rolled out a new contest aimed at getting families outside together during February break called “Find the Tinman’s Heart.”

Chittenango is the birthplace of L. Frank Baum who wrote, “The Wizard Of Oz,” so the contest was themed after the heritage of the area.

The contest, which ran Feb. 15 to 23 consisted of a small heart (quarter-sized) being hidden somewhere in the Town of Sullivan, then scrambled picture clues were posted each day via Facebook and the Sullivan Parks & Recreation website to lead the community to the heart.

There was lots of involvement from the community, and after just a few short days Bill Griffith and his daughter Maggie came upon the heart at Sullivan Park. Picture clues helped the father/daughter duo narrow down the location of the heart.

Bill and Maggie received a brand new 40-inch LED TV for winning the contest.

On Feb. 19 Bill and Maggie were presented their prize by Corrin Stellakis (from Bridgeport), the newly crowned Miss New York Teen USA. Look for the contest again next year.

The department sends a special thanks to all that participated, Corrin Stellakis-Miss New York Teen USA, and a huge thank you to the Sullivan Community Council who sponsored the contest and donated the television.
