(Canastota, NY – March 2014) FrogWatch USA will take place March 5 at 6 p.m. at the Great Swamp Conservancy, 8375 North Main St. in Canastota.
FrogWatch USA is a program under the umbrella of the American Zoological Association, which collects data about the variety and quantity of the frogs in designated areas. Last year the Great Swamp Conservancy started a chapter, one of five in NYS. These amphibians are the barometers of the health of land and lakes where they reside. When they become sick or do not thrive, it is an indication the land and or waters have become toxic.
The GSC Chapter of FrogWatch USA will hold its first meeting March 5 at 6 p.m. at the GSC office meeting room. Anyone interested in amphibians is welcome to attend. You can join the FrogWatch USA chapter at any meeting.
Chapter Co-ordinators, Kristin Burns and Rusty Patane will explain how to listen for the frogs and toads, how to record the data and take you to the designated listening areas for our chapter.
All ages of interested participants are welcome.
