(Verona, NY – March 2014) John Margo, retired Vice President of Human Resources at Oneida Healthcare Center, has received a Special Recognition Award from the Association of Career and Technical Education Administrators (ACTEA) due to his long-standing collaboration with the CTE division at Madison-Oneida BOCES. He will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Albany on March 27.

Dave Arntsen, Director of CTE at MOBOCES, nominated Margo for the recognition. Arntsen cited Margo’s deep commitment to the Allied Health Partnership, a one-year half-day program open to nine outstanding seniors in the region that is based at Oneida Healthcare. Students shadow medical professionals in all hospital units and gain hands-on experiences that provide them with a strong foundation in the medical field under the mentorship and guidance of doctors, nurses and other hospital staff. The Allied Health program began in 1997, with Margo leading the hospital’s portion of the partnership.

“The AHP program has been so successful, in large part, because of Mr. Margo’s commitment over the past 18 years,” Arntsen said. “Without his leadership and support in helping the mentors develop strong relationships with students, much of what has been accomplished would not have happened.”

Arntsen said students are able to fine-tune their career plans based on what they learn and see through Allied Health, making their college experiences more meaningful and effective. He said many colleges accept Allied Health alumni based on the program’s reputation for producing highly-determined and knowledgeable students with intensive work-based learning experiences under their belt.
