(Oneida, Chittenango, NY – March 2014) Operation Northern Comfort is a volunteer effort focusing on assisting Oneida families whose houses were damaged by flooding last summer. An unusually warm winter day Feb. 22 allowed about 40 volunteers to work on three different houses, an ongoing effort for the month of February to do the work necessary to allow families to get back into their homes.
Youth Development Specialist Tina Louis from the Madison County Youth Bureau volunteered with two students from the Youth Bureau’s Chittenango Leadership Group, Kalila Lehner and Rachel Mahosky. The group worked on framing walls and ripping up flooring in one house on Walnut Street.
“It was hard work, but I was proud to see how determined the young ladies were to help a complete stranger,” Louis said.
