2014 Winter Dairy Management Program

(Morrisville, NY – March 2014) Friday, March 21st Crawford Hall, Room # 103, Morrisville State College Morrisville

Registration begins at 9:30 am. Topics include Business Planning & the Dairy Acceleration Program; Low-Cost Parlors; Budgeting for Dairy Modernization Capital Investment; Milking Parlors – Intervals for Maintenance & Improved Numbers Game; Robotic Milking Systems.

Madison County Field Crops Meeting

(Cazenovia) Friday, April 4th at Empire Tractor, 2893 Route 20 East, Cazenovia. Registration begins at 9:30 am. Lunch is provided, courtesy of Empire Tractor, and requires pre-registration. Register in advance by calling Empire Tractor at (315) 655- 8146 by April 2.

This program has been approved for 2.5 Pesticide Re-Certification Credits. Bring pesticide photo ID card or a photo driver’s license.

Program begins sharply at 10 a.m.

Topics: Vertical tillage; managing nitrogen – soil health, crop health, resilience and vigor; herbicides affecting water quality; herbicide resistant weeds; regulatory update and label review.

Game of Logging

(Georgetown, Greene) The Game of Logging is coming to Chenango County. There will be three sessions, all of which will begin at 8:00a.m., and run until late afternoon, with a limit of 10 participants per session.

The classes will be taught by Bill Lindloff of Game of Logging fame. To participate in The Game of Logging, you must have a chainsaw and appropriate OSHA-approved safety gear, such as chaps, hardhat with face shield and appropriate footwear and be dressed for a long day in the March woods.

Level I Monday March 17 Cook Park in Greene (southern Chenango)

Level II Tuesday March 18 Cook Park in Greene (must have completed Level I)

Level I Wednesday March 19 Georgetown Fire Department, Georgetown and DEC Sate Lands (northern Chenango)

The cost is free, and normally costs about $125, and this time is being subsidized by the New York Center for Agricultural Medicine and Health in Cooperstown, and administered by NYCAMH in collaboration with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chenango County, Chenango County’s Cook Park, and the NYS DEC Lands and Forests of Sherburne.
