(Oneida, NY- April 8, 2014) Oneida Healthcare lifted the all-visitor visitation restriction imposed last week at the Extended Care Facility.  Infection Prevention Manager, Jeanne Miller, RN, BSN, CIC, said they have not had any new reported cases of influenza or influenza-like illness at the ECF since last Monday, and under the advisement of the New York State Department of health, they are now allowing adult visitors to the ECF, effective Monday.

“We will continue to enforce visitor restrictions for anyone under the age of 18, as we are experiencing an uptick of influenza in the younger population in the community.  This continues to be in effect for both the ECF and the hospital,” she said.

Miller also noted that if a visitor is exhibiting any upper respiratory symptoms, such as congestion and/or cough, they are asked to leave and return when they feel better or, if necessary, wear a mask while in either facility.

“Unfortunately, there has been a 39 percent increase in flu cases over the past week, so New York State is now considered to have widespread flu,” Miller concluded.
