Bike day 1

(Oneida, NY- April 2014) Community Bikes’ held its sixth annual Bike Day April 6 at the Kallet Civic Center in Oneida. Nearly 200 children and adults received a bike, helmet and lock. Bike recipients began lining up as early as 9 a.m. for the event, which began at 1 p.m.

Volunteers from the Morrisville State College AutoTech program, from Community Action Partnership and others were on hand to greet families and match each with a bike to suit their need and intended use. Sarah Smith from Fidelis Care, which provided funding to purchase helmets, was also on hand with handouts and information for guests.

Bike day 2Since it began in 2009, Community Bikes has placed bikes with more than 1,600 families and individuals in Madison County.  The not for profit organization has also provided bikes to two international programs for at risk youth, in Malawi, Africa and St. Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean.
