To the Editor:

(Hamilton, NY – May 2014) The Chenango Canal Association thanks those who helped make the first annual Trail Fun-Run along the picuresque trail system at the Hamilton Airport Saturday, May 3, a big success.

Mayor Margaret Miller started the race/walk at the Hamilton Municipal Airport and raised more than  $700 for the History on the Summit project for the Chenango Canal Association. History on the Summit is part capital project and part programming at the Canal Cottage Museum in Bouckville. The museum offers displays of historic photos to tell the story of local history of the surrounding area.

The CCA plans to replace the roof and siding to go along with the new windows already installed. A program introduced last year offered a half-day of education and fun to fourth-graders at Madison Central School. We would like to offer this to other area schools and expand the museum display with 36 more photos.

Many thanks go to the 60 runners/walkers who came out on a crispy cool but dry day, CCA board members who worked on the race and Harvey Kliman and a select group of Colgate students who helped me represent the Clean Water Coalition; particularly Elisabeth Muehlemann, Monica Murphy, Katherine Schultz and Stephanie Fitch.

More thanks goes to those who contributed money and support to our cause: Max A. Shacknai COVE at Colgate University, Colgate Newman Community, Dan Fratangelo at Dr. Pepper/Snapple Group, Screen-It, The Trophy Guy & Sports Connection, Kinney Drugs, Price Chopper, Tractor Supply Company, Oliveri’s, HWF, the Barge Canal, the Village of Hamilton and Town of Hamilton offices, Hamilton Airpark-Airport Commissioners, Sean Graham and airport manager Lou, Madison Fire Department, Rick Neff & Sons, Mayor Margaret Miller and our race adviser, Craig North, who has had years of experience with races up and down the Rt. 20 corridor.

Diane Van Slyke, Chenango Canal Association President
