MR-13-2014 mccmc (Mad Co Roller Derby) (2)(New Hartford, NY – July 2014) On Saturday, Aug. 2, The TitleTown KnockOuts from Madison County’s first women’s roller derby league, Ladies’ Death and Derby Society, will host its second home competition (“bout”) of the season, “The Dog Days of Derby” at the New Hartford Recreation Center in New Hartford. They will face the Dirt Road Dears from Potter and Tioga counties in Pennsylvania.

Doors open at 6 p.m.; competition begins at 7 p.m.

Founded in February 2012, Ladies’ Death and Derby Society has members from across Madison County including Hamilton, Poolville, Canastota, Madison, Oneida and Sherrill in Oneida County. This will be their fourth bout of this season, and they are looking forward to hosting this competition on home turf.

Although roller derby’s popularity is often associated with a more staged play from the 1960s and ’70s, the modern game is very different. Today the sport is rigorous, athletic, internationally regulated, and teams are known for promoting grassroots community efforts.

Proceeds from this home bout will be donated to Wanderers’ Rest Humane Association.
