(Peterboro, NY – Aug. 2014) The National Hall of Fame and Museum will host its Equality Day Program, “Legacies of Equality,” on Sunday, Aug. 24 from 2:00 – 3:30 pm at the Smithfield Community Center, 5255 Pleasant Valley Road in Peterboro.

Established in 1971 through the work of Rep. Bella Abzug, Women’s Equality Day is celebrated Aug. 26 to commemorate the passage of the 19th Amendment, which granted women full voting rights in 1920.

1280px-Official_program_-_Woman_suffrage_procession_March_3,_1913_-_crop The “Legacies of Equality” program will honor the intersectional histories that led to the triumphant passage of the 19th Amendment, as well as to 20th- and 21st-century struggles toward greater racial, class, gender, and sexual equality.  Through a set of powerful performances–speeches, songs, and spoken word poetry– the program offers insight into the realities of women’s equality today and imagines the legacies of equality and freedom that we might leave to future generations.

The public is encouraged to join in this annual observance of Equality Day.
