(Wampsville, NY – Sept. 2014) Madison County Highway Superintendent Joseph Wisinski announced that the county has complied with all requirements of the state Department of Transportation and it is expected that the bridge that spans the CSX railroad tracks will be able to remain open until it can be replaced next year.

“Barton & Loguidice were hired to engineer the repairs necessary to remove the red flag designation,” Wisinski said. “Thanks to the assistance of Maurice O’Connell of CSX’s Selkirk office, we were able to get railroad flaggers on site Aug. 21 and make the repairs.”

According to Wisinski, the Highway Department was given ample time to complete – and have Barton & Loguidice inspect – the required repairs. He said the completed repairs were then photographed and provided to Barton & Loguidice for review and inclusion in the engineering letter drafted to the DOT, which detailed the work completed and included their stamp of approval.

“This is expected to inactivate the flags and allow the bridge to remain open until we schedule the replacement next year,” Wisinski said.

“This is a great outcome for emergency services, the town of Lenox, schools, area farmers and county employees alike,” said County Administrator Mark Scimone. “It could not have been done without the hard work and perseverance of our highway department staff and members of the Board of Supervisors who advocated for residents in every way possible to keep the bridge open.”

Wisinski said the new closure date will be sometime around mid-June 2015.
