Bill Magee

(Albany, NY – Sept. 2014) The Business Council of New York State, Inc. is endorsing Assemblyman William Magee (D-Nelson) in the 121st State Assembly District primary election.

“Assemblyman Magee understands firsthand the needs of Central New York,” said Heather C. Briccetti, Esq. president and CEO of The Business Council.

“Assemblyman Magee is an unwavering voice for the agriculture industry and our rural communities.  As a member of the Assembly, and chair of its Agriculture Committee, Assemblyman Magee has been a champion of economic growth policies and we are confident that he will continue to focus on those policies when he is reelected,” said Briccetti.

The Political Action Committee of The Business Council makes endorsements of candidates who support The Council’s mission to create economic growth, good jobs and strong communities across New York State.

Nurses Union Endorses Magee

(Sept. 2014) The New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA), as an extension of the work fighting for quality and affordable patient care for all New Yorkers, endorsed Bill Magee for re-election to the State Assembly.  NYSNA – which represents more than 37,000 registered nurses throughout the state – has led the fight to safeguard community hospitals and ensuring health care access in every community in New York.

“Given the current state of healthcare in New York, this legislative session may prove to be crucial in the fight for access to quality care for all New Yorkers – from Buffalo to Brooklyn,” said Judy Sheridan-Gonzalez, RN, President of the New York State Nurses Association.  “Bill stood with us to prevent the for-profit takeover of healthcare, support safe staffing ratio legislation and protect workers’ rights.  He has demonstrated a commitment to embrace NYSNA’s agenda, not only around healthcare, but to address the tragedy of income inequality. Electing a more progressive legislature is the first step toward the passage of necessary legislation to address these ongoing crises in our state. Our members enthusiastically endorse his campaign.”

Over the last several years, NYSNA has led groundbreaking campaigns to improve the lives of New York’s most vulnerable patients.  Most notably, NYSNA created a powerful coalition in partnership with community, faith, and advocacy groups to stop the dangerous tide of hospital cuts and closures in underserved communities. Our movement was key to keeping Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn open for care and to the ongoing struggle to protect vital healthcare services for the patients of Long Island College Hospital.
